A Chance To Be #1, Still Up In The Air
If Tom Brady leads the game winning drive with 57 seconds to go, he’s the best quarterback of all-time.

There’s no doubt that some critics would have doubt. That’s the only doubt. Brady is now 2-3 in his five Super Bowl appearances. He joins only Elway with five shots, although John lost his first three. Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw went 4-0, Roger Staubauch went 2-2, Troy Aikmen was 3-0, and of course Jim Kelly went 0-4 four times in a row. I think 4-1 with beating the Greatest Show on Turf and losing in the greatest upset of all-time would be a nice resume. However, that’s not how the pieces fell into place.
Brady sat alone for quite a long time following the Super Bowl. He was distraught, lonely, and silent. The Giants won that game. The Patriots lost that game. It was a good game. What else can I say about that game? I believe Tom Brady wanted to win that game for the city, his coach, and the team but he needed it for himself. He would have avenged the most difficult loss of his career four years ago. A win on Sunday would have given him the title of best quarterback in NFL history. The stats, records, Super Bowls, and everything that goes with it would have been wrapped up with a big bow called victory number four. That didn’t happen and number one will still be debatable.

It could be my choice for number one, John Elway the Comeback Kid and maker of “The Drive.” Montana and Aikmen were perfect! Forget going to a bunch of Super Bowls, you always have Steve Young, Peyton Manning, Johnny Unitas, Ben Roethlisberger, and Fran Tarkenton! What about the Brett Favre saga? There was no clear cut favorite before Sunday and there were none on Monday.
Perhaps one is the loneliest number…
